29/10/16 - I've removed all the spellcaster and voodoo comments, so there should only be Dolman family history queries here now.

ReplyDeleteI hope you've got Dolman (we never knew his first name), the eccentric and iconic UK musician whom I last saw playing about 10 years ago with his excellent band ?Cat Scratch Fever? at Brighton Pier. I think he came from Manchester and is ?a legend in his own VW split screen van?.

ReplyDeleteIf anyone reading this knows of a Dolman Family living in Saskatchewan, Canada in early 1900's I would appreciate hearing from you. I am looking for Margaret Wilson b. 1877 in Montgomeryshire Wales and married a Dolman in either Canada or Montana State USA about 1905-10. She had at least two children Mary and a son called "Beaver". I am trying to trace family of Grandma Laura, age 96 who remembers aunt Margaret but cannot remember her husbands first name. She thinks he may have died fairly young

ReplyDeleteMy mother's maiden name is Dolman. She resides in Kingston South Australia and is 88 years old. She was 1 of 4 girls so there is no decendents from her family to carry on the family name. She did have cousins in Echunga South Australia and I believe they had sons to carry on the family name as the last of her generation died about 2 years ago.

I wld b grateful if you cld shed any light I have drawn a blank

Great site...you might be interested in www.trajectory.com . I found it to be an advanced directory with some pretty cool features.
Just for kicks, I search the Dolman surname.

Hi,
Great site, fantastic to find my own name 305 years later.
Son of Mark Dollman and grandson of Reginald Dollman, Adelaide Australia,
Cheers,

Hi
ReplyDeleteI'm tracing back Dolman/Dollman and Parmeter lines (they kept intermarrying, so it gets quite confusing). I've traced back to Edward Dolman and Mary Cox, but stuck there.
My Great Great Grandmother was Ruth Dollman, who married the photographer John Hood in Adelaide, South Australia.
Melanie Lever
I live in Vancouver Canada and my birth mother is a Dolman from Hull, Yorkshire. Her father and brother were in the Royal Navy.
ReplyDeletePrudence Gregory born 1783 Calne Wilts
ReplyDeleteher mother was Betty Dolman
Here are some names Janet Elizabeth Dolman,
ReplyDeleteEric Dolman (my grandfather) he is a retired opera singer.
Linda Kempton (an author married but origanaly dolman) Mauldy Glew (great great grandmar) she lived in india for a while her three sons were navy marine sailors. She was a rich woman whose husband was high in power. And way way back is Sir Lord Steinfield.
I recently visited Broxwood Hall in Herefordshire where I discovered a family link to the family of Snead-Cox. John Dolman, a great-great uncle married Helen Ann Cox c.1835 and they lived at Souldern Manor in Oxfordshire. There are several other Dolman graves in the area, including a Benedictine monk. I would love to know how the Dolmans got from Pocklington (Yorks) to Herefordshire.
ReplyDeleteI am researching Flying officer John james Campbell who was married to Beryl dolman about 1937. Her Father was also serving in the raf as a warrant officer. I believe that she lived at one time in merryhill wolverhampton. I am told that they had a son 1938. John died 1941 whilst on raf duties.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone can help with any info It would be appreciated. aerophil@live.co.uk
Hi, I am from Echunga SA. I was a Dolman until I got married. I see that someone talks of the Dolmans in Echunga above. I believe the cousins she is talking about are my Grandfather and Great Uncle. There are no decendants from my Grandfather any more but there is from my Great Uncle.
ReplyDeleteI am a Dolman and have lived in North Wiltshire all my life. My grandfather was a Herbert Henry Dolman who married a Annie Elizabeth Wilkins in 1916. She was 21 and he 44.
ReplyDeleteHis father was a George Dolman who was born approx 1831.
If I can be of help to anyone contact me.
Dear ?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments on the 14/8/09. Could you email me on dolman.andy@hotmail.co.uk
I think you might both be able to fill some gaps on the family tree.
Thanks
Andy Dolman
The gentleman above might be interested in the birth certificate for Georgina Dolman. The 1881 Census would indicate that she's the sister of Herbert Henry Dolman. RG11 2029 26 4.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear from him too, so if he contacts you again Andy, would you let me know please?
I also think there's a strong possibility that Herbert's father George is my great great grandfather James Dolman's younger brother. They both originate from Derry Hill, and the dates are about right. Please see 1841 Census Bremhill Wilts 10 6 4 4. So I'd ESPECIALLY love to be in contact with the message poster, please.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, my GGGrandfather James and family are living at Hack Farm, Melksham on the 1861 Census. I recently had contact with the current owner, who explained that the original farm was burned down in 1940, and that Hack Farm was originally one of 6 farms on the Spye Park estate, which has also been destroyed by fire. My research seems to point to James's sons (my GGrandmother's brothers) remaining as farmers in that area, while my part of the family moved to SE London.
If any Dolmans are interested in Spye Park, there is a website http://www.bayntun-history.com/BromhamVillage.htm that might give some context to their research.
With best wishes
Beverley
DOLMAN IN WILTSHIRE DEATHS
ReplyDeleteIn my own family research, I've been trawling through the Death Indexes looking for Wiltshire (mostly) entries for Dolman in the late 19th/early 20th century. I have entered the results on an Excel spreadsheet,
and would be happy to share them with anyone else who might find it a useful short cut - but please check any individual entries again yourselves before using them for obtaining certificates, etc. It's been useful in flagging up possible children who were born and died between censuses, and seeing where various Dolmans were living (and dying)in which years.
If you're interested, email me at beverleythornton9@googlemail.com
Hi Beverley,
ReplyDeleteTHanks for your comments in the guest book. Unfortunately the poster of the comment that you're interested in hasn't got back to me yet. I would be interested in your excel spreadsheet. I also have a spreadsheet that has most of my info that you're welcome to have a copy of. It has births, deaths, marriages, burials, hospitals, military and some trials and mentions in trade directories.
All the best
Andy
I'm trying to find information about a London art dealer called Dolman (don't know his first name sorry!) working sometime in the late nineteenth century (I think between 1870 and 1890). If anyone has come across any information about him, I'd be very grateful. I can be contacted at lizziebisley@hotmail.com.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much,Lizzie.

Hi
ReplyDeleteI've just got a marriage cert from GRO that's proved irrelevant to me, but the info might interest someone else?
1844 30 Sept The Parish Church Edington Joseph Payne 53 Widower Tailor of Tinhead, son of Joseph Payne Clothier, to Ann Dolman 60 Widow of Tinhead, Daughter of John Hobbs, a Gardener. Witnessed by Jacob Pike and Lucy Balwin.
William Miles who married Mary Ann Walter 16 May 1836 was my GGGrandfather. One of his daughters, Sarah Miles, b1842, married Henry Hyatt and they lived in Shepton Mallet. My father was a Hyatt. I only found William's marriage recently and discovered that hr was also known as Dolman. On Sarah's marriage certificate her father's name is given as Miles and he made his mark. I would be interested to know why he was also known as Dolman- possibly his mother had been widowed and remarried?

ReplyDeleteI am looking for history of a Norwegian family, originally named Olson (Olssen?) who changed their name to Dolman after arriving in the United States in the 19th century. The name "Dolman" was picked because it resembled the name of a Norwegian Island, which I cannot find. Do you have any information about this?
ReplyDeleteMy posting of February 23, 2010 at 9:51 PM was Anonoymous because Google wouldn't take it. My e-mail address is bbakerlaw@aol.com. Please e-mail me if you have any information about Norwegian Dolmans. Thanks, Bonnie

ReplyDeleteI just found this site, and it is great!!! I knew of the Dolman family back for a couple of generations, so am looking forward to studying the information on this site in great detail. Thanks for all of the great research and work that must have gone into this web site.
ReplyDeleteI would like to prove or disprove that my Dollman family from Sussex is a different ancient lineage to those of the Yorkshire and that region Dolmans. If there is anyone who can prove a direct line back generations on the Dolman line as mentioned above I would like you to contact me to discuss my having your DNA done to cross check with one I have had done already.

Hi, I am doing family research. My mother in law was born a Dolman and its about her father I am having trouble with.
ReplyDeletehis name was Henry (sometimes known as harry) born in 1899 in Allerton. he married Francs Vickers and his parents were George Dolman and Faith Chapman, all residing in Derby. I cannot find him on the 1911 census - my mother in law seems to think he was not living at home at this time. He joined up for the first world war, lying about his age and it was from injuries sustained during this that finally killed him in 1938. he was a well respected musician too. If any one has any information at all this would be a big help. My mother in law was only 2 when he died and has no photos of him and very little iformation.
